Description

Making the most of NECTAR

Nick Dimmock (Research Information Specialist)

NECTAR, the Northampton Electronic Collection of Theses and Research, is the university's Open Access repository and showcase of research output.

As well as serving as a record of output and archive of published works, NECTAR connects to many external services (such as Google Scholar) and is a useful tool in propagating and promoting university, school and researcher output.

NECTAR also offers researchers a way to satisfy HEFCE open access requirements for the post-2014 REF.

This workshop will explain the principles behind NECTAR and demonstrate the services and advantages it offers researchers at the university, with practical demonstrations of how to make the most of this service.

At the end of this workshop attendees will be able to:
• Understand the purpose and scope of NECTAR
• Find university output on NECTAR and other academic repositories
• Manage their research output with repository deposit in mind
• Add their own university research output to NECTAR, including full text where possible
• Understand the wider role of NECTAR in propagating research
